NHC officials meet with heads of multinational companies

Leading officials of China's National Health Commission, including Minister Lei Haichao, Vice-Minister Liu Jinfeng, who is also director of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Vice-Minister Guo Yanhong, held separate meetings in Beijing with heads of prominent multinational pharmaceutical companies and associations attending the China Development Forum. The companies and associations are Eli Lilly, Medtronic, Pfizer, Vantive, Amway, Boehringer Ingelheim, the US-China Business Council and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

During the meetings, the Chinese officials briefed the participants on the strategic arrangements of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for advancing the Healthy China initiative. It was emphasized that China prioritizes health in its development strategy and underscores efforts to strengthen the public health system, build a high-quality and efficient healthcare service system and promote healthy lifestyles.

It was highlighted that China has been deepening medical reforms, advancing the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine and boosting scientific and technological innovation in the healthcare sector, with the goal of making decisive progress in the Healthy China initiative during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).

It was also stressed at the meetings that China's optimized business environment and the vast market driven by the demands of 1.4 billion people for health services will provide more opportunities for multinational pharmaceutical companies and associations. China welcomes increased investment and cooperation and stands ready to work with all parties to advance the building of a global community of health for all, the officials noted.

Representatives from the multinational companies and associations shared updates on their operations and business plans in China. They expressed their strong confidence in China's development prospects and a willingness to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, actively participate in advancing China’s healthcare sector and contribute to the Healthy China initiative.
