Medical reform in 2019 should prioritize the drug policy reform, health promotion, resources distribution, comprehensive supervision and management as well as health poverty alleviation, said Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of the National Health Commission.

Wang made the remarks at a meeting on deepening medical reform experiences promotion held in Xi’an, Northeast China's Shannxi province on May 25.

Medical reform has entered into deep-waters where more effective methods and implementation are demanded, according to Wang.

China needs to further define the direction and requirements of the next step to deepen medical reform, said Wang, adding that the reform should adhere to a prevention-and problem-oriented work policy, regard health talents as medical reform's critical resources and encourage exploration and innovation.

Wang affirmed the medical reform progress in the last year.

He said the effect of deepening medical reform has continued to manifest and people's health has climbed continuously through reform of medical insurance, health institutions and circulation of medicines.
